Chocolate cake


For 12 people

  • To prepare the cake:
  • Sifted flour - 1 ½ cups
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Eggs - 5
  • Sugar - 250 g
  • Grated lemon or orange zest - ¼ teaspoon
  • Lukewarm water - 1 cup
  • Vegetable oil - ¾ cup
  • Baking powder - 1 ½ tablespoons
  • Cocoa - ½ cup
  • Tahini to grease the pan - 1 tablespoon
  • To prepare the sauce:
  • Butter - 150 g
  • Unsweetened dark chocolate - 150 g
  • Sifted powder sugar - 80 g
  • Skimmed milk - 50 ml
  • For decoration:
  • Chocolate sprinkles - 1/4 cup


Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C and grease a 30 cm cake pan with tahini.

To prepare the cake: whisk the eggs in the Moulinex Masterchef Gourmet stainless steel bowl on medium speed using the whisk.

Add the vanilla extract, lemon zest and sugar and mix until the sugar melts.

Add the flour gradually and beat the ingredients until you get a thick mixture.

Pour the lukewarm water and the vegetable oil then mix again.

Add the baking powder and cocoa and keep beating for 5 minutes.

Pour the cake mixture in the greased pan. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes or more until done. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.

To prepare the sauce: melt all the ingredients in a heatproof bowl placed over a saucepan of simmering water.

Remove from heat, mix with a spoon and let cool to room temperature.

Spread the sauce on the whole cake and cover the edges.

Decorate the cake with chocolate sprinkles.
